3. Un deuxième lot pour les familles nombreuses. « On verra le seuil. Trois enfants. Quatre. On ajuste selon le budget. »

TERRITORIAL 2027: IGGY, RAM AND MONGO RUNNING, AND THEY GO GIVE OUT EVERYTHING — THEY JUST AIN’T KNOW WHAT YET

« We ain’t changing nothing, we just go do it better. »

By the Zoukmag politics desk

Alright, it official now — well, almost. Iggy, Ram and Mongo going run in the next territorial election. First round is Sunday March 14, 2027, second round the 21st, to switch out the 23 seats on the council. Three weeks after that, everybody back at the polling station again for the presidential. Meaning what? Meaning the island going spend another spring putting up posters, cussing each other polite on social media, and promising the moon to people who only asking for a road.

« We meet up one Tuesday by the barbecue, we count the spots on the list, and we say right there: it’s three of we, we need 23 — so we got room, » Iggy say. He the self-appointed head of the movement, and he ain’t want to give out the list name yet « so nobody ain’t run off with it. » The name, we have it. They stuck between « Three Friends, » « All Together, » and « Forward, But Gently » — three names they find in English, because in Creole it was too much headache.

An inside poll (done on the WhatsApp group « Ça se dit à Saint-Martin, » so basically nothing) put them at 12%, with a margin of error of 12%. We ain’t fussy about small details.

The programme? No. The tradition.

Let we remind the facts, because some people clearly forget: over here, you don’t win a campaign with ideas. You win it with gifts. Fridge, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine, fan, sometimes a stove, often a blender. You give out to the people, and the people, in true democratic logic and full respect, say thank you in the voting booth. That is the system. It ain’t perfect. It work. Nobody go fix it — that would be foolish.

Iggy, Ram and Mongo own it, yes. Their programme is one sentence:

« We go give out plenty things, same like always. We ain’t sure exactly what yet, but we go give. »

On the details, Mongo was straight to the point:

« First we look what on sale. Then we decide. We ain’t go promise a dishwasher and show up with toaster — we would look like what? »

The promises, from most clear to most foggy

1. Kitchen appliances, in « generous » quantity. The exact thing coming « in due time » — meaning when it hit the sales.

2. Gifts « fitted to each household. » Translation: everybody ain’t getting the same, but we ain’t saying in advance who getting what. « Else it make people vex, and vex people vote against you. »

3. A second set for the big families. « We go see the cutoff. Three children. Four. We adjust by the budget. »

4. Home delivery. Because hauling a fridge to Quartier d’Orléans is good, but hauling it to the front door is better. And that, people remember.

5. Full transparency on who get what. « We go make a list. Maybe. If we have time. »

6. And everything else, by the way. Roads, schools, hospital, garbage, tourism, the youth future. « But that is secondary. The main thing is the gift. People remember the gift. The town plan? Not so much. »

The reaction

The other side ain’t waste time. « They promising a fridge to everybody, but they can’t even set the temperature on they own one, » one outgoing elected official throw out — staying anonymous « because he ain’t know which list he landing on yet. » Classic.

Last word

Three candidates, zero final catalogue, blind faith in whatever on sale that week, and total belief in the power of a blender handed out on time: Iggy, Ram and Mongo promising a campaign that « generous, short and not too expensive. »

Mark the date: March 14, 2027. Between now and then, they still hunting 20 more candidates. And a catalogue.

If you got either one, call them. Especially about the catalogue.
